Jiffest Ready to Screen 114 Movies
A subfestival called 'Madani Film Festival' is prepared in support of Jiffest.

VIVAnews - The Indonesian capital is ready to host the Jakarta International Film Festival. The film festival has been on scene in Jakarta since 1999. Initiated by Shanty Harmayn and Orlow Seunke, the festival draws the attention of thousands of viewers. This year, as many as 114 movies from 24 countries will be screened in the 11th Jiffest.

A subfestival called 'Madani Film Festival' is prepared in support of Jiffest. Movies depicting Islam as their themes will have the main stage in the sub-festival.

To improve public's view about Islam, the 'Madani Film Festival' will be independently held by 2010.

Today's Jiffest will also be the place for a project called the Indonesian Feature Film Competition (IFFC). It will feature every Indonesian long-movie, aiming at awards 'Best Indonesian Feature' and 'Best Indonesian Director'.

The juries will include Brynjar Bjerkem (head), Laura Coppens, and Thomas Chia.

The category World Cinema will screen "Departures" (Japan, 2009 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film), "500 Days of Summer", "The Damned United", "Mammoth", "Coco Before Chanel", Applause". "North", "Three Monkeys", "Jerichow", "Troubled Water", "Love & Rage", "Everlasting Moments".

The opening night on Friday, Dec 4, will screen Indonesian movie "Sang Pemimpi". (wal)
