450 Villages in E Java Prone to Flash Flood
There are 20 areas prone to the flash flood.

VIVAnews – The residents in East Java were asked to be cautious of the upcoming raining season this year because there is a possibility of flash flood which might threaten half of the East Java area.

According to the drainage division of the East Java Public Works Agency (PU), there are 20 areas prone to the flash flood. Those areas are located on the catchment area of Bengawan Solo and Brantas River.

There are total 450 villages in 192 sub-districts which are prone to flood, namely Malang regency in which 5 rivers are passing through, 11 rivers in Blitar, 8 rivers in Tulungagung, 10 rivers in Trenggalek, three rivers in Ponorogo, two rivers in Madiun, 11 rivers in Nganjuk, 19 rivers in Kediri, 7 rivers in Jombang, 11 rivers in Bojonegoro, two rivers in Tuban.

It may also happen in Lamongan where 15 rivers flow the area, two rivers in Gresik, two rivers in Mojokerto, 6 rivers in Pasuruan, three rivers in Lumajang, four rivers in Jember, 12 rivers in Situbondo, two rivers in Bondowoso, and two rivers in Banyuwangi.

The East Java Public Works Agency has listed and done several maintenance works.

“We have listed several dams that once got broken and must be repaired soon,” said head for the drainage division of East Java PU Mustofa Chamal Basya on Thursday, Nov. 19.

The agency together with the Tirta Jatim I service company, Brantas River and Bengawan Solo agency have analyzed the dams which are in critical conditions located in 20 areas along East Java to avoid the flash flood threat.
