W Sumatra Quake Causes US$2.29 Bn Losses
The quake damaged 4,625 educational facilities and 395 health facilities.

VIVAnews - The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that trembled West Sumatra by the end of September caused losses to Rp 21.5 trillion (US$2.29 billion). Padang Pariaman regency suffers from the largest loss.

Pariaman is a region where 74 percent of its buildings is destroyed. Total homes devastated by the earthquake reached 119,005.

The quake damaged 4,625 educational facilities and 395 health facilities.

The earthquake also crippled 246 state offices. Public services are now arranged in temporary sites.

Various public facilities such as roads, bridges, worship houses, traditional markets and irrigation are crushed by the fatal tremor killing 1,195. The dead victims in Pariaman are recorded 666.

In Padang, the earthquake killed 133; Agam, 81; Pariaman municipality, 48; Pesisir Selatan, nine; Pasaman Barat, five; Solok, three.

The followings are the losses in detail:

1. Padang Pariaman regency: Rp 8,6 trillion
2. Padang: Rp 8 trillion
3. Agam regency: Rp 3 trillion
4. Pariaman municipality: Rp 1,1 trillion
5. Pasaman Barat: Rp 285,7 billion
6. Pesisir Selatan: Rp 257,7 billion
7. Solok; Rp 49,1 billion
8. Padang Panjang: Rp 27,8 billion
9. Bukittinggi: Rp 813 million.
